I read books like I drink water, and thats a lot so this article was just waiting to come out. I used to work in the video production business so I do know a thing or two about what goes into a movie. With this knowledge I have comprised a list of books that I believe need to be made into movies.
1. Montmorency by Eleanor Updale
This was a book I read when I was younger and I love it. It is about a man who leads a double life, by day he is the sophistocated and wealthy Montmorency and by night he is the ruthless theif Scarper. Its a very well done book, it s very entertaining and it tells a great story that can be done in so many different ways. I
2. The Soul Taker by Celia Rees
I love this book. I have read it over one hundred times and I am not sick of it yet. It is the story of overweight and unhappy James who wants to turn over a new leaf in life. He meeds Viktor Ladslow, a toy sho owner who says he can help Jame, but at what cost? It is a chilling tale that still sends shivers down my spine. While its not one of those books where it is all gore (which is not really that scarey) it is cerebral and keeps you thinking until the very end. This movie has great possibility but as I think about it, I am not sure I want to be made. Most people don’t enjoy a horror movie unless no less than 17 gallons of blood are used during filming. I want to go back to the days where scary wasn’t a murderer coming out, slashing some girl and then running away and this will definately do it if made right.
3. Dear Brutus by J.M. Barrie
I am sort of cheating with this one, this is technically a play but I am very fond of it. I did this play in high school and it is one of my all time favorites. It is about a man named Lob who invites a group of 8 people to his massive house in the country. They are of no relation, and have never seen each other before so why are they there? It is a magical story based on Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Nights Dream and would be a great film. This is reflecting my love of classics, I am a fan of Pride and Prejudice, Emma and all of those romantic era stories. This would be a charming film to say the least.
4. Cinderellis and the Glass Hill by Gail Carson Levine
Its a kids book but I think its utterly cute. It is about the inventor Ellis who has two mean step brothers, and he has fallen in love with the local princess. When a contest is announced, that whoever can climb a glass mountain, and retrieve the princess, will marry her, he jumps at the chance. It is written by the same woman who wrote Ella Enchanted and has that same charm. Its quirky, funny and extremely cute. I think there aren’t enough good kids films and this one would break the dry streak.
5. Cirque du Freak by Darren Shan
Before anyone throws a fit, I know it was already made but it needs to be finished! The series is amazing, and doesnt make vampires look like sissys. This is taking the vampire back to its roots and giving them a more human twist. There are 12 books and only three of them were made into a movie, the serries gets much better after the first three and it needs to be placed on the big screen. I loved the movie, and now I want to see it finished.
Those are my top 5 books that need to be made into movies, you may agree or disagree but I believe that they would all be great. Of course the likely hood that they will be is slim, but a girl can hope.
