Chicagoland is a beautiful place to visit, particularly in the summer when trees and flowers are in full bloom, and the weather’s nice and warm. If you’re visiting Chicago, and you want to bring your cat with you, there are many pet-friendly options that will put you close to what you’d like to see and do during your stay.
Hotel Monaco, located at 225 N. Wabash Ave., is right in the heart of downtown Chicago and is an extremely pet-friendly establishment. Only blocks away from Millennium Park and Michigan Avenue, you can take your kids out for a day in the sun or do some shopping along the Magnificent Mile. Museum Campus, which is home to the Adler Planetarium, the Shedd Aquarium and the Field Museum, is only about a mile away. The Art Institute of Chicago is within easy walking distance, also located on Michigan Avenue.
You’re very close to the Chicago River at Hotel Monaco, so if you’re looking to take a boat tour or hop a water taxi, you can catch one just around the corner.
Hotel Monaco offers welcome treats and turn-down treats; pet-sitting, grooming and even massage services, and food and water bowls for your pet, among other things. The director of pet relations is a Lhasa Apso named Oliver, who enjoys playing in the lobby. However, if your cat doesn’t like dogs you may want to greet Oliver alone.
You can make your reservation online, and fill out their pet registration form to ensure that the hotel knows what kind of pet you’re bringing and whether it has any special needs. This is also the time to book special services such as grooming, walking, or pet sitting. If you make your reservation by phone, simply let them know that you’d like to bring your cat with you, and they will put the appropriate information in with your reservation. There is no additional charge when you bring your pets.
If you’d prefer to stay closer to O’Hare, there are several pet-friendly options in that area. The Chicago O’Hare Garden Hotel, Westin O’Hare, Holiday Inn Chicago O’Hare and the Hilton Garden Inn Chicago O’Hare are all minutes away from the airport and also allow pets, but may charge a small fee for bringing them. Call ahead of time to let them know that you’ll be bringing your cats, and they’ll tell you what their exact policy and charges are.
Not interested in staying in the city? According to information on Expedia.com, the Fairbridge Hotel in the northern suburb of Wheeling allows people to bring their dogs and cats with them. This boutique-style hotel is within easy driving distance of several Chicago area attractions, including Six Flags Great America, Ravinia and the Chicago Botanic Gardens.
The nearest stop on the Metra rail system is less than two miles away in Prospect Heights, so if you’d like to go downtown but don’t enjoy the idea of picking your way through city traffic, you can park at the Metra lot and take the train into downtown.
Also, most of the larger hotel chains such as Days Inn, Holiday Inn, Best Western and Marriott have locations all over the suburbs, and many of them allow pets too.
