AND PERFORMS LIVE AT 2012 BRAZILIAN INTERNATIONAL PRESS AWARDS AFTER THREE-YEAR BATTLE WITH BREAST CANCER AN BIRTH OF TRIPLETS
Brazilian singer, Fabiana Passoni, was invited to perform her song, Esse João, and received an award for Best Brazilian Female Singer Living in the U.S., by the 2012 Brazilian International Press Awards, held on May 4, 2012 at the Broward Center for Performing Arts in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The nearly sold-out theatre presented artists and celebrities with awards and lifetime achievement recognition.
Invited to perform at the Brazilian International Press Awards and winning the award for best Brazilian Female Singer living in the United States, confirms Fabiana Passoni’s ability to connect her fans to her music on an international scale.
“I’m honored and thrilled to be invited to perform as well as receive an award, as this signifies an appreciation for my artistic talents,” says Fabiana Passoni. “It fuels my passion to continue to create music that makes a difference in peoples’ lives, and allows me to connect with my fans all over the world in both Portuguese and English,” continues Passoni.
Marking her official comeback to the music scene following a three-year battle with breast cancer and the birth of triplets, Fabiana performed Esse João in front of a full-house at the Brazilian International Press Awards held at the Broward Center for Performing Arts. Audience members related to the song Esse João, with satirical lyrics about a clichéd character, a womanizer, in Brazilian culture. Spectators continued to discuss the song’s storyline even after Fabiana Passoni’s engaging performance.
Fabiana Passoni’s emotional acceptance speech, where she expressed gratitude to her family, friends and band members for their support, and quoted her father “the fight is big but the victory is even bigger,” brought some audience members to tears as she expressed her vow to never give up on life. Only two years ago, Fabiana Passoni was battling breast cancer, yet now, in good health, accepted an award and performed in front of hundreds of spectators, who referred to her as a fighter, brave, perseverant and an example of life.
After her emotional acceptance speech and performance, Fabiana Passoni was stopped by media and people requesting interviews and signed autographs. A Brazilian consulate member who flew out from the Netherlands for the awards ceremony mentioned that Fabiana Passoni’s performance made the trip all the more worthwhile.
This Spring, using a samba rhythm and her velvety voice, Fabiana Passoni put out a unique flair on her remake of Minnie Riperton’s Billboard Hot 100 #1 1975 hit, “Lovin’ You.” Marking her first single in the charts, “Lovin’ You” is being heard on jazz and Brazilian radio stations across the U.S. in top DMAs and everywhere in between, as well as across the globe. The single is available now for download at www.CDBaby.com and www.iTunes.com.
Fabiana was struck with a three-year battle with breast cancer that put her on a journey not only of survival but a discovery of her own personal musical style. With joyful rhythms and a velvety voice, Fabiana achieved her style with the acclaimed 2011 release of Naturalmente Brasil featuring 12 original tracks. The album exemplified her fresh interpretive manner and accentuated her distinct sultry, Brazilian voice. Composed in the midst of her battle with cancer, chemotherapy and pregnancy, Fabiana’s dreams of continuing her career never faltered even among many setbacks, and her joyful spirit propelled her rebounding success.
Fabiana’s songs are a combination of jazz fusion with the older rhythms of Brazil such as bossa nova, baião, and samba. Her interpretations are passionate, sensual and exciting. Her live performances are a celebration of Brazilian soul and culture – rich in percussion and expression with a relentless zeal for life.
She is organizing an intimate summer tour throughout the United States with cities and dates to be announced soon and is also planning to complete a full album by early 2013.
