Last night comedian Stephen Colbert gave his own take on the recent controversy involving Donald Trump’s birther comments. Trump continues to argue that Obama was born in Kenya, citing an obscure book description, which was written by an assistant to Obama’s former publisher. The assistant has since said the passage was a typo, and that Obama never gave them any evidence indicating he was born in Kenya. Still, Trump stands by his original assertion, and presumptive Republican Party nominee Mitt Romney is standing by Trump, quite literally. Romney refused to repudiate Trump this week, saying he only needs “50.1 percent” to win the election. In the video to the left, Colbert mocks Trump in classic Colbert fashion. Some of the more entertaining quotes from the segment are below.
“There was some disturbing news over the break – Barack Obama is still President. Or is he, because real estate billionaire and basketball with tooth veneers Donald Trump has found some dramatic new evidence.”
“How is Mitt gonna get to that 50.1 percent up here. He’s already got the fiscal conservatives, and the social conservatives all mixed in that’s no enough. Now Trump gets him the birthers. But now he’s gotta reach on to the 9/11 truthers, the alien abductees, the doomsday preppers, the sasquatch hunters, the sacquatches, or sasquetche. That’s only 50 percent. How does he get that tiny sliver, that’s gonna be tough. Who represents such a miniscule portion of America? Wait I’ve got it – all Mitt needs are the blacks who like Donald Trump.”
Colbert then shows a scene from Celebrity Apprentice in which Arsenio Hall is declared the winner of Trump’s show – and celebrates Mitt’s victory with the 50.1%.
