Volcanic Geyser is an uncommon red instant that’s erupting back into player’s “Magic: The Gathering” decks with Wizards of the Coast’s upcoming “Magic 2013 Core Set.”
Volcanic Geyser – XRR
Volcanic Geyser deals X damage to target creature or player.
“The Mountain’s Fire Surges beneath your feet, demanding release. Can you not feel it?
Volcanic Geyser was a big deal when it made its debut in “Mirage”. That’s because as an instant it could be played during and opponent’s end step. It was used in decks packing Counterspell and Force of Will. Volcanic Geyser became so notorious that it was even made into a promotional foil “Sixth Edition” card two years before “Seventh Edition” introduced foils to the core sets.
Volcanic Geyser’s use in Standard seems unlikely. Devil’s Play is currently a better option because it has flashback. In fact, Devil’s Play was recently used by Christian Calcano who came in first place at Grand Prix Minneapolis with this U/R Delver deck.
Volcanic Geyser is a powerful instant in limited that shouldn’t be passed. Although Volcanic Geyser can’t have multiple targets like Fireball, it’s instant card type helps offset for the one more red mana it costs compared to Blaze.
How will you use Volcanic Geyser?
