Summer here in Maine may already be halfway gone, but it’s still hotter than ever. The beaches are filled with hundreds of people trying to get cool, but for those who like to avoid the crowds and still take the family out for a fun-filled day, the movie theater is the coolest place in town. With several big blockbuster movies coming to theaters this year, here’s a look at the coolest movies for the hot summer days.
In Theaters Now
The Avengers is Marvel’s biggest cinematic achievement to date, serving as the culmination of over five years of super hero films. Featuring plenty of humor and excellent action to keep both kids and parents entertained, this is one summer film that shouldn’t be missed.
The Amazing Spider-Man serves as Marvel’s second film for this year, and is a reboot of the popular hero’s on-screen adventures. Starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, Spider-Man is finally back in a big way, and is the perfect film for the whole family. Kids will love watching their favorite hero swing through the streets of New York City, and to all of the comic-book lovers out there, The Amazing Spider-Man is sure to impress.
Men in Black 3 has Will Smith donning the black suit and tie once again as he leaps back in time (quite literally) to save his overly-serious partner, K. Award-winning actor Josh Brolin takes on the role of young K, delivering a performance that will make you think he is actually Tommy Lee Jones in disguise. With all of the comedy and thrills that the series is known for, the Men in Black are finally back to save the universe once again.
Coming Soon to Theaters
Ice Age: Continental Drift is taking our favorite prehistoric group of misfits on a brand new adventure. As it turns out, Scrat’s long journey to finally keep his hands on the ever-elusive acorn has taken its toll on the world, causing the continents to start shifting. Many, Diego and Sid must head out on their biggest adventure yet, reconnecting with each other and long lost families as they attempt to find home. Fun for the whole family, Ice Age: Continental Drift floats into theaters on July 13th.
The Dark Knight Rises may be the most anticipated film on this list. Christopher Nolan began an epic project years ago with his version of the Caped Crusader in Batman Begins. The films have taken the world by storm, and after years of waiting, the third and final film in the trilogy releases on July 20th. Batman has finally met his match against the infamous Bane, a powerful brute with one thing on his mind — taking down Batman and all of Gotham City. Will Batman succeed, or is Gotham doomed to fall?
The Expendables 2 may be for the adult crowd, but it’s sure to end the summer with a bang. Featuring an even bigger cast than the first film, including Arnold Schwarzenegger in his return to the big-screen as a full-blown action hero, The Expendables 2 has its cross-hairs set on making action movie history. Once again written and directed by Sylvester Stallone, the film releases on August 17th.
